Drenched. Happy.

Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet.

- Roger Miller

I love summer rain.  Really, I love any rain, but summer rain is the best to go walking in.  Today I didn't bother with walking though.  I just stood in the backyard and savoured it.  Don't you love the feeling of dozens of big fat plonky rain drops hitting your skin all at the same time?  The assault of your senses with the sound of thousands of raindrops hitting the roof interspersed with loud claps of thunder (that make you jump and almost fall backwards over a chair), that wonderful summer rain smell, the feel as the raindrops hit, causing you to tingle all over.  So invigorating.  You just can't help but feel alive.

Ok, yes it's our shed.  But look at the rain!

Drenched.  Happy.  Alive.

Inch by inch

With all the rain Perth has been getting over the last few weeks my vegetables have been growing well beyond millimetre by millimetre or centimetre by centimetre (plus, inch by inch is waaaay quicker to say)

In the last two months my tomatoes and snow peas have gone from this...

to this!

there are lots of green tomatoes of various sizes and about 4 orangey red ones, not long now til the first one gets popped in my mouth straight off the plant!

and the snow peas are creeping up fast, no flowers yet but I have my fingers crossed.
I love looking at how the tendrils curl around whatever's available.

Have you got any winter veggies growing?  How are yours coming along?

This week I'm grateful for...

... four day long weekends - it's a public holiday here in WA on Monday

... pseudoephedrine - my CML medication interacts with paracetamol and codeine so I'm not allowed to take them so when I got the first dreaded cold for the season this week I was ever so grateful that I can still take something to help.

... yummy smells coming from my oven - my wonderful MR cooked me a delicious roast dinner while I was resting whinging sick in bed (and he even washed the dishes!) and tonight my house was filled with the aromas of an oven baked chicken, pumpkin, tomato and leek risotto.  Mmm, it was tasty.

... freshly squeezed orange juice - hand squeezed by my muscly man (he does it so quickly and easily)

... my new convection gas heater - keeping me warm in the womb couch

... the rain - so nice to hear it on the roof for four nights in a row, first time that's happened in a long long time.  Even better, it reached a fair bit of the Wheatbelt in WA, which is in desperate need of it.

Head over to Maxabella's with me now.  I'll wandering through now while I wait for dinner to settle before I head to bed.  I've missed the last few weeks of gratefulness so I'm looking forward to a catch up.

This morning...

This morning I woke up to the sound of rain.

This morning I woke up from a good quality nine and a half hour sleep.

This morning I woke up feeling much more positive and balanced.

This morning I woke up feeling happy.
