Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

You'll never guess what I got for V Day...

A bronchoscopy and a hospital stay.  Oh yay! Aren't I just so lucky!!!!!

(*grumble*)

I was totally dreading the bronchoscopy (tube stuck down your throat and into your lungs to have a look and take a sample of lung gunk and a biopsy if needed) but the twilight woozy drugs they gave me worked so well that I don't remember anything past putting in a mouthguard thing to keep my mouth open while they tubed me.  Next thing I remember (vaguely) is getting off one bed and onto another in my room.  THANK GOD. Of all the procedures I have had since my liver went caput that one was the one that  I was most anxious about in the lead up to it.

So I'm stuck in hospital for a few days while we wait to see why I only have about half of the lung effectivity as I should do.  My liver has also been playing up a bit, the ALT (one of the things they test in the liver function blood test) has been rising for a week or two and has reached 280 when it is supposed to be below 35.  They don't want to increase my immunosuppressants because that will make the probable infection (I say probable because they have no idea what's the problem, even after an x-ray and a ct scan) in my lungs worse.  So here I sit.

In other much more exciting, but rather trivial, news, I had my first 'green smoothie' yesterday.  I started off a bit wussily and only had one vegetable but that's beside the point.  It's apple, mango, spinach and lime.  It was quite yummy.  All I could taste was the apple, which is good because I really hate spinach.  I got it at some health food shop.  When I get my tax back (after I have put it in heh heh oops) I am going to buy myself a juicer or maybe one of that fancy really expensive vita mix or whatever they are called machines.  And take up a bit of a juice diet.  Not as in, only drink juice because that would be totally boring.  But as in, have at least one green veggie filled smoothie a day.  We'll start and one and if they taste nice maybe I might increase it to two.  We'll see.  Maybe I can just put apple in all of them.  Apples are green!

Are you a juicer?  Fruit or veggies?  What are your favourite green veggie smoothie combos?

Crap news about having to stay in hospital. I hope nothing serious is going on with your lungs. I have seen those green smoothies about and wondered about them. I'm a bit like you- the thought of veges in juice sounds odd but I am also intrigued!

Love the look of your blog at the moment too! The header is cool and I like the post title font. Good job!

Last year I got so into healthy smoothies with my raw food revolution! Now I just have pineapple juice with a green food drink and a probiotic supplement (which is also very green) that you can buy from our organic shop on my blog sidebar. The probiotic is the only thing that keeps my stomach flat! I also mix in a citrus flavoured magnesium supplement that I get from my naturopath to prevent arthritic pain and restless legs. (Ha! I sound like an old woman!)xx

You poor thing I hope your on the mend soon. Lots of mags, light reading and please tell me you can have some icecream between those juice shakes ... green tea icecream has got to be healthy right?!

Oh no. This is not good news. Another hospital stay heh? Not fair. Grumble away.
That green smoothie looks disgusting... I imagine your lung gunk would look similar! E. desperately wants a juicer. Been talking about one for ages and ages. Since baby O was born he has asked more frequently to be fed at dinner time. I know he gets tired, especially with school, but I think it best he do it for himself (good co-ordination practice and all) so I have told him if he feeds himself every night for a month I'll get him a juicer. A week later and he hasn't asked once.

Oh no Megan that sucks! I hope they can identify that bug pronto and get on top of it.

I started all sorts of juice things when I was first diagnosed with CML. It has fallen by the wayside a bit now but, spinach smoothy, I'm tempted.

Bah humbug, but isn't the drowsy time drug lovely?? I like it too when I have marrow taken from my hip Do you get the oxygen machine attached to your finger too?? It is all so inter-related: one thing affects another. I hope they sort you out tout suite. I love juice, celery is nice, ginger, lemon, apple, spinach, carrot, pineapple. Yum!!! I had a juicer about 15 years ago but it was too hard to clean. An easy cleaning one is a good thing!!

What a big pain to be in hospital on Valentines Day.I hope the doctors find out what's going on with your liver and get things working. Your green smoothie looks much better than the one I made today for the girls and I and sounds nicer too. I think I might need a bit of a heavy duty blender because our smoothie was a little bit on the crunchy side, needless to say they won't have another green smoothie for a while:)
